Description
|
Similar in habit and aspect to the preceding but commonly with shorter and narrower blades; spikes usually 3-8 cm. long, short-exserted or partly included in the sheath; burs 3-7 mm. wide, pubescent or nearly glabrous, with no ring of slender bristles at the base, the lobes flat at the base, erect or spreading, sometimes inflexed, usually enclosing two spikelets; spikelets 5-7 mm. long; first glume narrow, about one-third as long as the spikelet; second glume and sterile lemma subequal or the lemma as long as the acuminate fruit.
