Tallos 1-6 m, erectos o semitrepadores, fistulosos. Vainas pelosas; lígula (3.5-)4-6(-7) mm, lacerada; láminas (6-)8-12(-16) x 1-2.2(-3) cm, elíptico o linear-lanceoladas, puberulentas en el envés, escábridas en el haz. Panícula (1-)4-9 cm, casi esférica, la base generalmente incluida; ramas divergentes o a veces algo reflexas, profusamente ramificadas; pedicelos patentes. Espiguillas (3.5-)3.7-4.1(-4.5) mm, obovoides; gluma inferior (1.2-)1.7-2 (-2.8) mm, 7-11-nervia; gluma superior 9-13-nervia; flósculo inferior estéril o rudimentariamente estaminado; lema inferior 11-13-nervia; pálea inferior 2/3 a casi tan larga como el flósculo superior; flósculo superior 3.5-3.6 x 1.8-2 mm. 2n=36. Linderos de bosques, vegetación secundaria.
