Mesosetum filifolium F.T. Hubb., Proc. Amer. Acad. Arts 49: 494. 1913; M. angustifolium (Swallen) Swallen; Peniculus angustifolius Swallen.

Perennes densamente cespitosas; tallos 40–65 cm de largo; nudos pilosos. Hojas en su mayoría basales, glabras; tricomas auriculares presentes; lígula ca 0.5 mm de largo; láminas hasta 35 cm de largo y 1 mm de ancho, cilíndricas. Inflorescencia 2–8 cm de largo y 5 mm de ancho, raquis 0.2–0.4 mm de ancho, triquetro; espiguillas 4–5 mm; callo piloso; glumas libres, gluma inferior 3–3.8 mm de largo, angostamente triangular, acuminada, longiciliada, gluma superior 4–5 mm de largo, ciliada en el 1/2–4/5 superior, esparcidamente pilosa en el dorso, 3-nervia; lema inferior 3.6–4.7 mm de largo, 3-nervia, ciliada en el 1/3 superior; pálea inferior ausente; lema superior 3.5–4.2 mm de largo; anteras 2.2–2.5 mm de largo.

Poco común, sabanas de pinos, norte de la zona atlántica; 10–40 m; fl y fr abr–jul; Neill 4417, Vincelli 628; Belice, Honduras, Nicaragua, Venezuela.
