Type Specimens
  • HT: 315; ; Brasilia: sihouette illustration and fig. of spikelet of 315 Vilfa exima N.ab. Es., in hb. Brasil Berol. It is not clear at this time (2010), whether 315 is a holotype or a syntype or if 315 and 266 represent the same species. 1700.02 is an sheet that is an illustration of a specimen at B and a drawing of a spikelet disection of that, and also has a fragment packet presumably containing a fragment of the same "315" B sheet. The collector Reidel 266 Mar 1826 somehow got associated with 1700.02 in (CNWGII -- Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 2001), but that data has now been removed as it more likely applies to 1700.01. (rjs 2010)
    • Annotation: illustration and fragm. ex B
  • ST: 266; ; Brazil: Sto Paolo (absque nomine) 1700.01 has Trinius's drawing of a spikelet disection; this may be a Riedel [or Sellow?] collection of Mar 1826, but it only says "266". Althought P.M.P. annotated the sheet as holotype in 1994, the name Vilfa eximia is not on this sheet. See microfiche 438 A2 and A3
    • Annotation: specimen and spikelet disection drawing
  • LT: LE-TRIN-1700.02. Brasil, "in hb. Brasil Berol., 315"
    • Lectotype designated by: Reference article Denham, S. S. & S. S. Aliscioni. 2010. Species delimitation in the Sporobolus aeneus complex (Zoysieae, Chloridoideae, Poaceae) using the phylogenetic species concept. Taxon 59(6): 1779.
