Perennial, tuft-forming grasses. Spikelets ovate or ovate-lanceolate, strongly compressed lower glume 3-5-nerved; upper glume 5-7-nerved; lemma strongly keeled on the back; awn single, usually short, often absent. 1 species introduced in Pakistan.
