Comment/Acknowledgements:
Commonly grows in sandy clay soils containing pebbles and stones in Pakhtoonkhwa (NWFP) province, Kashmir, between 1500-2000 m asl.
The plant is sudorofic, febrifuge and anthelmintic. The seed oil is yellowish and used medicinally.

Erect, up to 1 m tall, cymosely or dichotomously branched, sparsely to densely arachnoid villous, straw coloured stems. Leaves green, papillate-viscid, coriaceous, basal and lower lyrately dissected into acute, spiny lobes, 3 – 6 cm long, 1 – 2 cm wide (excluding spines), upper gradually smaller, oblong-ovate with shallow to deeply spiny lobes, amplexicaul, oblong-ovate, with shallow to deeply spiny lobes, conspicuously veined, acuminate. Capitula solitary, terminal, 2.5 – 3.5 (- 4) cm long, 1.5 – 2.5 cm across. Outer phyllaries leaf-like, ovate-lanceolate, 2.5 – 4 cm long, pinnately prickly dented, erect to spreading or ± spreading, or ± recurved; median usually with ovate, purplish appendage; inner ones narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 2 – 2.5 cm long, 3 – 4 mm wide, shorter than florets, entire, scarious, gradually acuminate. Florets yellow, subtended by 8 – 10 mm long bristles. Corolla tube 1.5 – 2 cm long. Cypselas ± ovate, almost compressed, 4-angled, 4 – 5 mm long, mottled, lustrous. Pappus scales very short on outer cypselas, 2 – 3 times as long as in median, almost reduced or absent in innermost cypselas.
