Comment/Acknowledgements:

Stewart, l. c. reported this species (E. reevesii Wall. ex DC.) from Balakot, collected by Dean, and from Kashmir, Pahalgam collected by Coventry, both the specimens are said to be housed at K. The authors could not locate any of the above specimen in K and also did not find any other specimen in K, KUH, RAW, BM and E from our area. Moreover according to  Hook. f., Fl. Brit. India l. c. and uniyal, Fl. India l. c. as (E. chinense non L.) it is distributed from Simla (India) eastwards to Bhutan, Nepal, China.

Most of the workers have adopted the broader concept of E. chinense L. and treated E. squamosum as a synonym of former species. One of us (MQ) had the opportunity to study quite a few specimens from neighbouring countries in K and BM. Therefore, following King & Robinson l. c., E. squamosum is treated here as a distinct species which differs from E. chinense by having entire – undivided leaves, whereas in E. chinense leaves are lobed/divided.
