Glabrous, erect, up to 1.5 m tall, perennial herb, stem flexuous. Leaves large, petiole 2-4.5 cm log, pinnatipartite, 10-25 and 6-12 cm, lobes 6-8 (-10) pairs, terminal lobe oblong-lanceolate, acuminate to caudate-acuminate, lateral lobes oblong-lanceolate, long acuminate, coarsely serrate, upper leaves gradually become smaller. Capitula numerous, on 3-5 mm long peduncles, arranged in much branched corymbs, obscurely radiate. Involucres narrowly cylindrical 8-9 mm x 1.5-2 mm, calyculate, bracts of calyculus 4-5 linear subulate, 2-3 mm long, puberulous. Phyllaries 5, linear 5-7, linear c. 8 x 1 mm, obtuse, somewhat puberulous at the apex, herbaceous, with scarious margins. Ray florets 1-2. Corolla yellow, ray much shorter than the style arms; disc florets 3, c. 8 mm long, tube c. 3.5 mm long, limb infundibuliform, lobes ovate-triangular. Anthers obscurely auriculate. Style arm c. 1.8 mm long. Cypsela cylindrical c. 2.5 mm long, glabrous, pappus c. 4.5 mm long white.
