Type:

Lectotype: Russia, Prope Samaram in salsis, Pallas s.n. (LE)

Distribution:

Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tadjikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan (Wakhan), Pakistan and China (Sinkiang, Nei Mongol, Ningxa, Gansu, Qinghai).

Comment/Acknowledgements:

R. R. Stewart (l.c. 777) has reported this widespread Saussurea species from Pamirs (an area of Karakorum mountains in Gilgit & Baltistan) citing a specimen (Alcock 17719). The present authors could not locate the herbarium where it was conserved. As it is reported from Wakhan (Afghanistan) corridor north of Chitral, so its presence in our area is expected.

Map Location:

B-8 Baltistan, Karakorum, Pamirs, 36˚ 25ˊ-27ˊ N, 75˚ 40ˊ E., 13 – 14000 ft., Alcock 17719 (BM?).
