Perennial herbs, 15–25 cm tall, stem branched from the base, sometimes unbranched, sparsely pilose–crisped hairy, minutely glandular in the upper part. Leaves herbaceous, green, long crisped pilose beneath, particularly at the margins or midrib and veins; basal leaves in rosette, lanceolate or subspathulate, attenuate into a ca 3 cm long petiole, lamina 1.5–3 (–5) cm long, 0.6–0.8 cm wide, acute–subobtuse, lower cauline leaves ± similar to basal leaves, sessile, acute, erect–patent or somewhat appressed to the stem, upper ones linear or elliptic lanceolate, acute, semi–amplexicaul. Capitula usually solitary, rarely two, 2.5–2.75 cm across. Involucre 1.0–1.5 cm in diameter, compressed. Phyllaries 2–3–seriate, moderately to densely hairy with a purple tip, linear–narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, outer ones 5–6 mm long, 1.0–1.2 mm wide, inner ones 7–8 mm long, 0.6–1 mm wide. Ray florets many, < 150, bluish – violet or purple, narrow, 5–6 mm long. Eligulate female florets few. Disc florets 3–3.5 mm long. Outer bristles of pappus short, slightly thicker, inner ones, 4.5–5 mm long, almost equalling to the corolla tube or slightly over topping, brownish or straw–coloured.
