Distribution: A-7 Chitral District, Chumarkhan Pass, Stainton 2913 (BM), Yarkhun Gurawar, Bowes Lyon 929 (BM), A-8 Gilgit, Gharesa glacier junction with glacier from Momhil Sar, ± 15,800 ft, grassy moraines, flowers yellow, O. Polunin 6188 (BM, B), B-8 Baltistan, Ulter nullah, 2,600-3,250 m, F. Schmid 1982 (G), Deosai Plains, ± 4,000 m, Muqarrab Shah & Jamshed 265 (ABD).

Distribution, Russia (Siberia), Mongolia, Kazakhstan (Altai Mountains), Kyrgyzstan (Tien Shan), Tajikistan (Pamir Alai), China (Xinjiang), Pakistan and Kashmir.

Comment/Acknowledgements: Collected from dry sunny places between 3,000 and 4,000 m. Fairly common in Pakistan, rare in Kashmir.

Perennial, erect and ascending small herbs. Rootstock divided. Stem 10-15 cm long, ± naked, densely tomentose and intermixed with long spreading hairs, glandulose. Leaves trifoliate, petioles 2-5 cm long tomentose and with long spreading hairs, glandulose, glands pale-yellow. Basal stipules membranous with oblong-ovate auricles, upper leafy and ovate. Leaflets 1.0-3.0 x 1.0-2.5 cm, broadly obovate-cuneate, c. ½ divided, 10-12 obtusely serrate-dentate, upper surface dull green, pilose to densely sericeous, lower dull white to greyish tomentose, glandulose. Flowers 1.5-1.8 cm across. Calyces adpressed pilose with dense pale yellow glands, outer linear oblong obtuse, inner ovate acute. Petals 8 x 7 mm, yellow, obovate, emarginate. Stamens about 20. Carpels numeorus, styles 1.0-1.2 mm long, slightly thickened at the base.
