Annotation: Nomenclature notes. Rusby (1907) and Focke (1910) described R. bullatus and R. betonicifolius, respectively, based on Bang 2235 from different herbaria. Rusby worked at NY at the time of the description, so we designate the specimen NY-429638 as the lectotype (Art. 9.1, 9.3, 9.11 and 9.12 of the ICN) of R. bullatus. On the other hand, Focke (1910) described R. betonicifolius with two gatherings: Bang 2235 and Weberbauer 670. The name R. betonicifolius was superfluous and, therefore, illegitimate when it was published as Focke included the only gathering cited by Rusby. - Espinel-Ortiz et al. 2024
