Notes: The status and occurrence in Madagascar of the described infraspp is uncertain. Gustafsson (1934) referred most of the material of this sp either to R. borbonicus or to his R. madagascarius, he annotated one of the 2 type sheets of Perrier 12568 as 'Rubus rigidus var. madagasicola', however this name does not appear to have been published. We agree with other authors treating this sp group for Africa and the Mascarenes, in recognising a single broadly-circumscribed widespread sp.
