Comment/Acknowledgements: Profusely flowering, planted as ornamental. Root is bitter astringent and is used in China as anthelmintic and tonic and leaves are helpful in healing wounds (Chadha et al. 9: 69. 1972). Root bark is useful in tanning (Mabberley, l. c.).

Evergreen shrub with climing stems up to 6 m. Prickles small, curved, often lacking. Leaves (3-) 5 (-7), 3-5 (-6) cm long, elliptic-ovate to oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, densely, finely serrate, glabrous and shining above, glabrous or slightly pubescent beneath.Stipules free, linear, caducous. Flowers numerous, in umbels, often double. Sepals entire, reflexed after flowering, deciduous before fruit ripens. Petals wite or yellow, c. 10 mm long. Styles free, short, glabrous. Orifice narrow. Pedicels slender, smooth. Fruit small, ca. 10 mm in diameter, globose.
