Deciduous shrub. Branches angled, grey-tomentose, rarely glabrescent with flattened, broadened at base, straight prickles. Leaves ternate, sometimes simple and lobed. Leaf blades ovate to suborbicular or sub-rhombic, 3-8.5 x 1.5-8 cm, base cuneate, apex rounded to acute, margin doubly serrate, leaf surface adaxially glabrous to sparsely hairy, abaxially white tomentose. Petioles 1.5-8.5 cm long, pubescent and covered with prickles. Petiolules of terminal leaflets 0.5-2.5 cm long, lateral leaflets subsessile or with petiolules up to 3 mm long. Stipules fused, linear-lanceolate, 5-10 x 1-2 mm, pubescent. Inflorescence paniculate, erect, many flowered. Flowers up to 2 cm in diameter. Rachis and pedicels densely tomentose, often with prickles. Bracts 3-8 x 1 mm, linear-lanceolate, densely tomentose. Hypanthium shallowly cupular, tomentose. Sepals 3-7 x 2-4 mm, triangular, shortly apiculate, tomentose, often recurved at anthesis. Petals 6-8 x 4-6 mm, pale pink, rarely white, suborbicular, glabrous. Stamens many, as long as stylodia, filaments 3-4 mm long. Ovaries and stylodia glabrous. Carpels ca. 20. Ripe fruit not seen.
