Scrambling shrub, 1-3 m. Branches terete, brown to reddish brown, thinly pilose to glabrescent, with numerous short and slender hooked prickles, eglandular. Leaves imparipinnate with (3-)5-7(-9) leaflets. Blade of leaflets ovate, triangular-ovate or ovate-lanceolate, (1-)2-5(-6) x (0.5-)0.7-3(-4.5) cm, terminal leaflet often pinnately lobed, base rounded to subcordate, apex acute to shortly acuminate, margin sharply doubly serrate and shallowly lobed, both surfaces sparsely pubescent, especially along veins abaxially, sometimes with prickles along veins abaxially. Petiole 2-6 cm, grooved, slightly pubescent to subglabrous, with sparse, minute prickles and glandular hairs, petiolules of terminal leaflets 0.5-1.5 cm, lateral leaflets subsessile. Stipules linear, 4-7 mm, pubescent, fused to petiole at base. Flowers usually terminal, solitary, sometimes inflorescence corymbose, 2-4 flowered. Flowers 1-2 cm in diameter. Pedicel 2-3.5 cm, pubescent with minute prickles and glandular hairs. Bracts linear, 4-6 mm long, pubescent. Hypanthium cupular, pubescent, with dense prickles and often with glandular hairs. Sepals (0.6-)0.8-1.2(-2) x 0.1-0.4 cm, ovate to triangular lanceolate, entire, usually erect at anthesis, rarely reflexed, pubescent and with prickles abaxially, apex caudate to acuminate. Petals 0.6-1 x 0.4-0.6 cm, white or pink, glabrous, oblong, obovate or suborbicular, base shortly clawed. Stamens numerous, unequal in length 0.5-0.8 cm long; filaments linear, flattened and broadened basally. Carpels softly hairy to subglabrous; style glabrous or sparsely softly hairy basally. Drupetum subglobose, 1-1.5 cm in diameter. Drupelets numerous, red to orange, pubescent or subglabrous. Pyrenes 2-3 mm, ovoid-globose, rugose.
