Forest margins, ravines and stream sides; 1500-3200 m.

Map Location: No specimens from Pakistan seen, but R.R. Stewart (1972), Fl. China (2003) and Rosaceae of Sikkim (2014) list it being present in Pakistan. Specimens from neighbouring countries examined.

Shrub scandent, to 3 m. Branches terete, branchlets yellow-white tomentose-villous, scattered with minute recurved prickles. Leaves simple, leaf blade ovate to narrowly ovate, 5-15 x 4-10 cm, base cordate to sub-truncate, apex acuminate, margin shallowly lobed and irregularly coarsely serrate to doubly serrate, leaf surface adaxially villous, more densely along veins, abaxially densely white tomentose. Petiole 1.5-4.5 cm long, white tomentose, sometimes with minute prickles. Stipules oblong or ovate lanceolate, 0.5-1.2 cm long, free, villous, margin laciniate above middle, persistent or caducous. Inflorescence terminal or axillary, tomentose, laxly spreading cymose panicles to subracemes, 10-25 cm long. Flowers up to 1.8 cm in diameter. Rachis and pedicels yellow-white tomentose-villous. Bracts elliptic to lanceolate, 3-9 mm long, villous, margin laciniate. Hypanthium short, shallowly cupular, tomentose-villous. Sepals 5-8 x 2-4 mm, tomentose, ovate to lanceolate, apex long acuminate to caudate, usually erect at anthesis. Petals white to creamy white, obovate, 3-4 mm long. Stamens many, shorter than petals, filaments linear, glabrous, anthers brown. Carpels few, glabrous, longer than stamens. Drupetum globose, 1-1.5 cm in diameter, glabrous. Drupelets few, dark red to blackish purple, adnate to torus at maturity. Pyrenes rugose.
