This species is a weak sprawling herb that has been collected mostly along the eastern coast in littoral forest and disturbed littoral vegetation. Plants of Africa and Madagascar are included in Oldenlandia affinis subsp. fugax; the type of Oldenlandia affinis is from India, and its subsp. affinis is reported from India through the Malay Peninsula.
