Notes:
This species is characterized by its asymmetrically 3-lobed stipules, its
several-flowered inflorescences, its relatively larger, funnelform, yellow corollas, and its distribution at higher elevations in western Mexico. Elias (1976: p. 129) notes that this species is sympatric only with Hamelia versicolor, which is found at lower elevations and has smaller tubular corollas.
