Notes:
This name was based on two specimens, Ducke 18899 and 18900, that were syntypes of the previously published name Appunia triphylla Ducke; Standley did not mention that other name nor exclude other mateiral of the Appunia species nor differentiate it in any way, thus Standley's Hoffmannia name is superfluous and illegitimate. The plant that Standley described as Hoffmannia duckei was in flower, so the fruit form could not be confirmed and he noted that it was unusual in this genus.
