Notes: This species has a somewhat slender glabrescent habit, small fasciculate to cymose inflorescenes borne with the leaves, cream to white or pale yellow rotate corollas with tubes ca. 2 mm long and lobes 3-5 mm long, and small red fruits. The fruits are narrowly elliptic and 4-5 mm long. These plants have been included by recent authors in Hoffmannia psychotriifolia, but that has larger corollas with the tubes longer than or about equal to the lobes and somewhat larger fruits. Typical Hoffmannia psychotriifolia also generally has elliptic or lance-elliptic leaves. Hoffmannia nebulosa is also similar to Hoffmannia excelsa, which has smaller leaves and subglobose fruits, and to Hoffmannia minuticarpa with smaller fruits, and to Hoffmannia rotata with larger inflorescences.
Distribution: At 1300-2070 m, Honduras and northern Nicaragua.
