This species is characterized by its laminar, emarginate to bilobed stipules, somewhat robust leaves, pyramidal inflorescences, somewhat well developed lobed calyx limb, white to blue funnelform corollas that are markedly gibbous and bent at the base, and medium-sized ellipsoid fruits. It is generally similar to Palicourea gomezii and Palicourea pyramidalis.
