Wernham originally included three specimens in this species, two from the Guianas and one from the northern mountains of Venezuela; Steyermark excluded this last specimen, Funck & Schlim 149, and designated it as a paratype of Chiococca naiguatensis (= Salzmannia naiguatensis).
