Notes:

This species is a tree with stiff, scabrous leaves, pedunculate inflorescences with several subcapitate to cymose flowers, medium-sized corollas, and medium-sized red fruits. It is frequent and commonly collected. The leaf size and shape and peduncle length vary rather markedly, probably in relation to local humidity.

The report of this species from Central America by Borhidi et al. (2017) has not been confirmed (Lorence et al., 2012; Borhidi 2012).

Distribution: Humid vegetation, low to middle elevations, Florida, Cuba, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico through the Lesser Antilles to Trinidad.
