Notes: This species is characterized by its few-flowered inflorescence and pedicellate flowers with broadly funnelform yellow corollas and generally well developed calyx lobes. It is similar to Hamelia xerocarpa, with generally sessile flowers and narrower corolla tubes.
Distribution: Wet forest vegetation at 30-1500 m, sporadically from central Mexico (Jalisco, Veracruz) to Peru.
