Notes: This species is characterized by its generally glabrescent stems and leaves, its several-flowered inflorescences with the axes becoming scorpioid, its ovate caly lobes, its yellow, funnelform, quite large corollas, and its rather large fruits. It is found somewhat sporadically over its range. Hamelia macrantha is sometimes confused with Hamelia calycosa, with longer narrower calyx lobe, and glabrescent forms of Hamelia xerocarpa.
Distribution: Wet forest vegetation at 0-2000 m, Costa Rica to Ecuador.
