Notes:
This species has well developed, opposite, obovate leaves that are subsessile and shortly rounded to truncate the base, rather short cymose inflorecences that are borne with or below the leaves, and rather small flowers. The leaves are markedly narrowed in the lower portion, and sometimes appear to have a long petiole but this is winged and here considered an attenuate leaf base. Hoffmannia subauriculata is similar to Hoffmannia amplexifolia, with verticillate leaves and generally longer inflorescences.
