This species appears to have a relatively limited geographic distribution. In general aspect it is similar to Ladenbergia magdalenae of northwestern Colombia, however L. laurifolia has shorter calyx limbs, 1.7-2.3 mm long, vs. 3-5.3 mm long in L. magdalenae.
