Note TYPE: Panama, Cooper & Slater 53 (F, holotype).
Description ?Shrub, branches slender. Leaves entire, to 1 m long. Flowers with the hy- panthium short, the calycine cup oblong, ca. 1.2 cm long, coriaceous, golden puberulent outside, glabrous within and with clusters of glands within, the lobes perhaps 5, unequal, triangular oblong to widely subulate, 0.4-0.8 mm long, acute, ciliolate; corolla with the tube cylindrical, 3.5-5.0 cm long, puberulent outside, glabrous within, coriaceous, the lobes 5, narrowly oblong, 10-12 mm long, often acute; stamens 5, the anthers oblong, ca. 4 mm long, the filaments 1.8-2.0 mm long, villose, especially below the middle; style linear, 30 mm long or longer, the stigmas 2, oblong, ca. 5.5 mm long, ca. 2 mm wide, obtuse. Fruits not seen.

Distribution known only from Panama.
Note The holotype was annotated by Standley many years ago as Pentagonia magnifica Lehmann, a species orig- inally described from Lehmann 8886 from the Rio Timbique, Colombia. P. mag- nifica, however, has 5 unequal calycine lobes which are obtuse at the apex while in the new species the lobes are acute at the apex; P. magnifica has a much shorter corolla, has shorter staminal filaments, linear anthers, and a much shorter style.
