Lectotype designated by Delprete & Kirkbride, 2016: 433: E.F. Poeppig 3065, first-step lectotype by Steyermark, 1972: 680; second step here, G [G00418072]; isolectotypes: W [Accession No. W104833], frag F [No. 766938]; possible isolectotypes: G [G00418071], W [2 sheets, No. W0053537 and No. W111261]. Delprete & Kirkbride noted that Steyermark gave the wrong type, by citing in the main entry Aublet s.n.; this is a misunderstanding of Steyermark's format in that work, the main entry always gave the type of the oldest name for the species, and Steyermark noted there that the oldest name for this secies was Tapogomea tomentosa, and cited for the type of the species its type, Aublet s.n.
