Project Name Data (Last Modified On 12/16/2013)
Acceptance : Status unclear
Note : This name has been used for two different species of Spermacoce, which are now generally called S. tenuior, which is well documented in Madagascar, and S. remota, which is expected but not yet documented.
Taxon Profile     (Last Modified On 4/17/2013)
Notes: This is a problematic name. It was long applied by all authors to a widespread, common pantropical weedy species of the "Borreria" group, with capsular fruits, but that species is now treated under the name Spermacoce remota Lam.; Spermacoce remota has apparently not been documented in Madagascar but should be expected in very humid vegetation. Bacigalupo & E.L. Cabral (studies published in the 2000's) have demonstrated that the type of Spermacoce laevis actually represents a species of Spermacoce s. str., which is currently treated under the name Spermacoce tenuior L. and is well documented from Madagascar. The source for the report of this name from Madagascar is unknown, so this report cannot yet be connected to a currently accepted name.
