This species seems to be easily confused with P. pyrrotricha but has a shorter whitish (v. reddish) indument on the infl. and elliptic (v. elliptic-obovate) leaves that tend to become distinctly bullate at maturity. They are at least partially sympatric.
This species is characterized by its elliptic to often elliptic-oblong leaves, dense velvety pubescence, pedunculate cymose inflorescences with the secondary axes often verticillate, and small ovoid fruits.
