This species is characterized by a shrubby or small tree habit, somewhat small leaves, rather short inflorescences, pubescence on the ovary portion of the hypanthium, white to yellow or pink corollas, and flattened fruits. The leaves often are pilosulous to strigillose, at least sparsely. This species is found frequently throughout its range, and quite commonly collected in Nicaragua.
