Notes
:
This species is characterized by its slender low habit; its small, oblanceolate to obovate, thin-textured leaves; its small, solitary, sessile flowers; its calyx limb ca. 1 mm long and enclosed with a stipular sheath or bract; its slender white corollas with the tube ca. 0.5 cm long; and its small fruits.
This species is similar to some other slender Ixora species with solitary subsessile flowers, in particular Ixora bemangidiensis with larger leaves and flowers; see De Block (2007) for more details and a key to separate these. Ixora reducta is also similar to several other small-leaved Madagascan Rubiaceae with similar ftuits, including Psychotia polyphylla, Psychotria haplantha, several species of Gaertnera, and some species of Chassalia; the species of these other genera can be separated by their different stipules.
