Notes
:
This species is characterized by its rather slender rheophytic habit; its rather small, narrowly elliptic, thin-textured leaves with the venation characteristically closely reticulated and evident on the abaxial surface; its small, solitary, sessile flowers; its calyx limb ca. 2 mm long and shallowly lobed; its slender white corollas with the tube 2.8-4.2 cm long; and its rather small fruits. This species apparently grows along rivers in the zone that is periodically inundated; the narrow leaves are characteristic of plants in such habitats, and presumably are shaped to survive in fast-moving water. This species is similar to several Ixora species with solitary subsessile flowers but a terrestrial habit, in particular Ixora clandestina, with larger leaves, and Ixora bemangidiensis with wider and smaller leaves and a range in southern Madagascar; see De Block (2007) for more details and a key to separate these.
