Notes:
Subg. Coffea. Davis et al. (2006) recognized two subspecies found in the same general region: Coffea coursiana subsp. coursiana was reported from 400-1200 m elevation, as coded in the species record here, and Coffea coursiana subsp. littoralis was reported from 0-30 m elevation. However Davis et al. (2006) reported the elevational range of the entire species as "0-30(-150) m", which does not agree with the range of subg. coursiana so there appears to be at least one typographical error here. The MO specimens of this species from eastern Madagascar are all from 100-500 m elevation; at least one specimen from ca. 1400 m in northern Madagascar has also been identified as Coffea coursiana but is provisionally excluded here based on the significant, previously unreported range disjunction and lack of confirmation of this identification by a specialist in this group.
