This species is similar to Danais terminalis in its short triangular stipules, small leaves, few-flowered quite lax inflorescences, relatively long corollas, and relatively larger fruits borne on well developed lax pedicels. It is not well known.
This name was excluded from Danais by Buchner & Puff (1993) based on its cylindrical unwinged seeds, vs. flattened, generally orbicular, and marginally winged in Danais. Taylor et al. (2024) noted that the diagnostic character of Danais in its tribe is its climbing habit, and that the genus includes species with seeds that have only rudimentary wings or sometimes no wings. Danais baccata has a climbing habit, and accordingly, was reinstated in Danais by them. In general characters and the seeds it resembles Danais aptera.
