Puff & Buchner (1994) knew this species only from its type, a fruiting colllection with no locality or habitat information, and considered its identity "imperfectly known". Danais baronii has not been matched to any modern specimens, and is only known in immature fruit so its identity is not completely clear yet. It is similar to Danais rubra and Danais schatzii.
