Notes:
CMT: This species is characterized by its very small leaves, 0.6-1.5 x 0.4-0.8 cm, and solitary or few flowers and fruits on short peduncles. Bremekamp described this species as having solitary flowers borne on short peduncles, however several recent collections are here included in this species based on their very small leaves but also have well developed peduncles and pedicels similarly to the inflorescences of Chassalia humbertii; the separation of these species may deserve re-evaluation. Chassalia betsilensis is often overlooked as a Chassalia. It is similar to some species of Psychotria, in particular Psychotria scabrida.
