This species is similar to Chimarrhis gentryana. Delprete distinguished it in part by its regularly developed calycophylls, however these are apparently deciduous after flowering. Chimarrhis brevipes has been confused with Calycophyllum obovatum, which has terminal inflorescences, and to Chimarrhis turbinata and Chimarrhis duckeana.
