This species is characterized by its hirsute pubescence, opposite to ternate, small leaves borne about the stems, cymose terminal inflorescences, and yellow corollas. Steyermark (1963) recognized two varieties, but those were later synonymized by Taylor et al. (2004). This is the most widespread species of Perama.
