Notas
:
This species is notable for its well developed stipules, nodding inflorescences with well developed bright pink bracts, and tubular white corollas. It apparently has a small range, but is not uncommon in this area even though it has been collected here infrequently; it has not been collected frequently apparently because it flowers during the main part of the rainy season when rather few plants flower. Palicourea bellula is generally similar in inflorescence form and color to several other Central American species, in particular Palicourea bella, Palicourea hammelii, and Palicourea ochnoides of Panama and Palicourea spathacea of Costa Rica. Palicourea bellula is also sometimes confused with Palicourea macrocalyx, which however has yellow inflorescences and smaller corollas.
