Notes:
This species is characterized by its appressed generally sparse pubescence, branched inflorescences with the axes largely dichasial, 4-merous flowers, deeply divided calyx limbs with the lobes usually reflexed, slender corolla tubes 12-17 mm log and 0.8-1.5 mm in diameter, and capsules 25-70 mm long. Joosia ulei was included within the circumscription of Joosia umbellifera by Andersson, but Joosia umbellifera differs in its shallowly lobed calyx limbs and elongated monochasial inflorescence axes. Joosia ulei is also similar to Joosia panamensis of Central America and western Colombia, but Joosia panamensis has usually well developed inflorescence axes that are monochasial in their apical portions, 5-merous flowers, and corolla tubes 1-2.5 mm long.
