Notas
:
This species is characterized by its erect, glabrous, somewhat stout stems; its thick-textured, rather short, very shiny leaves; its glabrous or glabrescent stipules; and its solitary to two or three flowers. The closely set shiny leaves and glabrous stems and stipules give the entire plant a shiny, or varnished appearance. Arcytophyllum nitidum and Arcytophyllum setosum sometimes are also similarly shiny; in particular Arcytophyllum nitidum is similar to Arcytophyllum vernicosum but Arcytophyllum nitidum can be recognized by its distinctive stipules with lateral fimbriae.
