Notes:
This species is characterized by its somewhat slender habit (within Joosia), pedunculate, several-flowered, cymose inflorescences with dichotomous to shortly monochasial axes and subsessile flowers; rather well developed calyx limbs that are lobed for about half or more of their length with the lobes triangular; corollas with the tube 21-28 mm long; and rather short capsules, ca. 20-30 mm long. The inflorescences characteristically are subcapitate when the buds form, and then develop short axes. This species is similar in general aspect to Joosia pulcherrima, which has well developed calyx limbs that are subtruncate to shallowly lobed. Joosia aequatoria is also similar to Joosia standleyana, which has pedicellate flowers with broader rounded calyx lobes and a longer corolla.
