Notes: This species has a rather robust habit, petiolate elliptic leaves, cymose inflorescences borne with the leaves, rather well developed (for Hoffmannia) yellow to orange corollas with tubes 5-8 mm long and twice or more as long as the lobes, and subglobose fruits. Hoffmannia asclepiadea is similar to Hoffmannia arborescens and their separation may need more study.
Distribution: At 1100-2600 m, Costa Rica.
