Thus the identity of this name has been confused and not entirely clear in our modern taxonomy, and this name was overlooked by the Flora Mesoamericana treatment. However with more material available and the identities of the Costa Rican species clarified, the type collection of this name matches Hoffmannia pittieri as circumscribed here and as suggested in the Flora Mesoamericana. Collection data usually describe the fruits of Hoffmannia pittieri as red, but the data on some specimens give their color as white.
