This species is characterized by its laciniate stipules, well developed calyx lobes, and medium-sized corollas. Puff & Buchner (1994) concluded that the elevational range of this species is below 100 m. The specimen from 950 m at Ranofamana is included here provisionally, because it agrees with the characters of this species as described by Puff & Buchner.
