Mimulus strictus Benth. in Wallich, Cat. no. 3918. 1828; Benth., Scroph. Ind. 28. 1835; Pennell, Acad. Nat. Sci. Philadelphia Monogr. 5: 32. 1943; R. R. Stewart, Annot. Cat. Vasc. Pl. W. Pak. & Kashm. 653. 1972; Hara in Hara, Chater & L.H.J. Williams, Enum. Fl. Pls. Nepal 3: 118. 1982.

Flower/Fruit: Fl.Per.: February-May.
Type: Type: Described from Australia (Port Jackson [Sydney] and the area of Endeavour River and Bay of Inlets [Cape York Peninsula, Queensland]).
Distribution: Arabia, Ethiopia, S. Africa, Pakistan, India, China, tropical Asia, Australia. Growing along streams or in wet places, up to 1500 m.

A variable species, especially in corolla colour and leaf shape, but the differences between M. strictus and M. gracilis cited by Pennell (op. cit. 33. 1943) do not seem sufficient to merit separation of M.strictus at species rank.
