Type-Protologue

Locality: Collected in Upper Louisiana [Territory], and principally on the river Missourie [1811]. P. grandiflorum is nearly the commonest species of Penstemons "in that country, and it was first met near the confluence of the Platte, from where it continues to the Andes."
